カナダ中銀は4月の金融政策決定会合で、金利を5％に据え置きとした。市場予想通りであった。カナダ中銀は、現時点でのインフレだけを大きなリスクとみなし、利下げ開始時期についてのコメントや示唆を避けた。 

前回の金融政策決定会合以降、多くの商品とサービスの価格圧力は緩和されたものの、より広範な経済環境における不確実性と、原油などの商品価格が予想外に高騰していることが、インフレ率をさらに着実に低下させる障害となっていることを、カナダ銀行は強調した。カナダ中銀のマックレム総裁は、最近の傾向はコアインフレの冷え込みを示唆しているが、現時点での統計は、より緩和的な金融スタンスへの全面的な転換を裏付けるものではないと述べた。その結果、カナダ中銀は今年前半のインフレ率は3％前後で推移し、2025年までに目標の2％まで低下すると予想している。一方、世界経済は成長の兆しを見せており、今年のカナダのGDP成長率1.5％を2025年には2.2％に押し上げると予想される。 

米ドル高がカナダ中銀のタカ派的姿勢に影を落とす中、4月にカナダドル対米ドルは、1.364ドルを超えて下落し、11月下旬以来の安値を記録した。
